Our group of meteorologists and physicians have been researching the relationship of real-time weather and human health. We have found very strong relationships between several ongoing health concerns. We believe that using wearables, looking at patient databases of actions, medicine use, and emotion, we can co-relate with weather data. With that, we can actually predict some actions of risk. Weather impacts every aspect ...more »
Currently, Clinicaltrials.gov is the database featuring all clinical trials. Unfortunately, it is written in clinical-speak, making it hard to locate and detemine what clinical trials are available for participation. I suggest a simple app be created that combs the Clinicaltrials.gov database for recruiting trials based on the stage of Alzheimer's disease. This would expedite the search and allow patients and caregivers ...more »
A preliminary ALZ test could be part of the HS testing. Early onset could perhaps be more easily identified. ALZ awareness would also be enhanced.
Set up a newspaper based advertisement with regular frequency in a section that targets the 50+ population to raise awareness on the importance of brainhealth.
For patients and physicians who register with an online patient registry, the registry should automatically send weekly updates on new trials open close to the zip code of the patient or the physician so that the stakeholder can be informed of new trials through a more passive approach
Institute a celebrity driven awareness campaign targeted towards raising awareness of clinical trials in AD among the 50+ age cohort either through TV ads or on the radio or through newspapers.
I am a runner and would like to see more information in our pre-race events about Alzheimer's. Runners take care of themselves physically. Adding to this base knowledge and understanding the health of the brain makes for better health. I am also an employee of Banner Alzheimer's Institute and I read the book "Still Alice". Alice, a highly intelligent women and a runner, was diagnosed with early onset of Alzheimer's ...more »
The goal of my dissertation is to identify the policy, system, organizational, and personal factors that facilitate, bar, and motivate ADRD community members to participate in clinical trials. My first stage is establishing a community advisory board comprised of ADRD professionals (clinicians, investigators/research assistants, and advocates) and people with ADRD and their care partners (including Black/African-American ...more »
To help reduce stigma/concern about enrollment, current clinical trial participants could opt-in to being a peer buddy to a potential participant/caregiver who is thinking about enrolling. They could answer questions/concerns, and if they end up joining the trial they can be an ongoing source of support to stay engaged.
Just like we see in drug stores and some big box stores what about a chair with a touch screen? The participant sits down, accepts the terms, and begins the test. It could be a condensed set of questions that screen for early signs of cognitive decline with a score at the end. The constraints could regard age, or showing ID to a pharmacist first without having to enter identifying information in the "data chair". A ...more »
YOUR BIGGEST HURDLE: US society has been conditioned to primarily want a pill to solve any of their medical/physical problems. Their second choice, a far distant second is to require some sort of physical activity/involvement to solve the problem. The examples are everywhere; obesity, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, even baldness. YOUR SECOND BIGGEST HURDLE is linked to the first: you are pitching clinical ...more »
Electronic updates and disease population specific information with simple tool for informing individual patient about potentially appropriate open studies and trials. If this tool could be integrated into healthcare systems electronic records tied to diagnostic codes, a family practice, internal medicine and or neurologist would be reminded at time of visit and simply print of a one page description of potentially ...more »
There is a consensus among the scientific and medical community that Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia are associated with other maladies. Having heart disease for instances increases one's risk of Alzheimer's disease later in life, suffer from both heart disease and type 2 diabetes and that risk surges. Dementia is a disease linked to other diseases, forming a task force that brings together the Alzheimer's ...more »
So many times the research that is being done does not reflect what we are observing. Everyday caregivers see so much more than what is being researched. If you include in the research what we observe, more of us will support what you are trying to test.. For example one of my clients has absolutely normal brain function after major surgery. This happens every time she goes under anesthesia. The hospital staff ...more »
A dedicated databank should be created for those interested in Alzheimers trials. If the program could incorporate data mining, where information entered by the neurologist could instantly exclude people from certain trials but include them for others. If the program could, instantly, populate a list of possible trials in which patients met inclusion criteria, then patients and their families could research which of ...more »
